Dangerous Virus Has Come in the App, if It Is in Your Phone, Delete It Immediately

The Barcode Scanner App has gone viral. Malwarebytes has provided this information. The Barcode Scanner has been removed from the Google Play Store after infecting users with the virus. The report states that users were seeing heaps of ads and were opening them through their default browser. Google immediately removed the app from the Play Store after receiving a complaint that it contained a virus. The app has been downloaded more than 1 million times from the Play Store.

The ad was being opened by default browser

According to a report from Malewarebytes, we received a distress call from our forum users in late December. These users were seeing an ad that was being opened by their default browser.

What is special is that none of them had any apps installed recently and the apps that were installed were downloaded from the Google Play Store. A user with the Anon00 username later learned that the ad was coming from the long-installed Barcode Scanner app. The app has been downloaded more than 1 million times on the Google Play Store. We soon detected the virus and then Google also removed it from the Play Store.

The report states that the app has been installed in users’ mobiles for a long time. However, after an update in December, the Barcode Scanner was transferred to a Malice App. According to the information received, this update was rolled out on December 4, 2020. It was also revealed that the app update contained an Android / Trojan.HiddenAds.AdQR code so users were being redirected to a third party ad side on their smartphone’s default browser.
